This 12 days tour from Tangier with Legendary Morocco highlights the best of our country. Your visit to Morocco includes the imperial cities of Tangier, Fes, Meknes and Chefchaouen. You will experience the wonders of Morocco. The ancient kasbahs, the blue city of Chefchaouen, caravan routes, local markets, historical towns, beaches, prominent and ancient sites as well as the desert experience with a camel ride into the heart of the giant sand dunes of the Merzouga desert. This trip also includes an overnight stay in the Atlas Mountains, Dades Valley, Todra Valley and the Gorges.
We will start your 12 days from Tangier by meeting you at the port, airport or picking you up from any point in Tangier. You will be welcomed by a member of our team. If time permits, we will take a short tour around the city of Tangier and then head to Chefchaouen through the stunning landscape of the Rif Mountains.
You will arrive in Chefchaouen after a two-hour drive and check into your accommodation at Riad.
Chefchaouen is known as the “Blue City” for its blue-painted walls. You will have time to rest and explore this wonderful city and enjoy its charming people in their traditional dress.
Early in your riad, we will start driving to Fes via Volubilis and Meknes.
Then we head to Meknes, which was the capital during the seventeenth century and one of the imperial cities in Morocco. You will see the famous Bab Mansour Gate, the cistern and the Suwani basin used for irrigation, and the shrine of Mawla Ismail.
After lunch with a view of Medina, we will head to Fes and overnight at Riad Yacout / Riad Ahlam in the heart of Medina.
After breakfast in your riad, our local guide will take you on an excursion to the oldest city of Fes in Morocco dating back to the 9th century.
You’ll explore the narrow, winding cobblestone streets of the Medina, where donkeys are the main means of transportation.
Your tour will include the historical sites of Medina, including the University of Al-Qarawiyyin, the oldest university in the world started in 851 by a woman (Fatima Faria), the Mausoleum of Moulay Idriss, and the famous (and strange) Najjarine Fountains. ) The tanneries, as well as the king’s palace and the Jewish quarter, where you can, if you want, visit the synagogue in the mellah.
Lunch will be in Medina. The tour ends around 3-4pm at your riad.
In the morning, we will head towards the Sahara Desert, stopping first in Ifrane, known as Little Switzerland.
Then we will continue through the cedar forest where, with luck, you will see Barbary monkeys.
Most of the trip will be through the scenic Atlas Mountains and the Ziz Valley.
After lunch in Midelt, we continue driving through the picturesque Zez Valley, stopping at scenic views along the way.
We will arrive in the village of Merzouga on the edge of the desert in the afternoon and stay at your riad, Riad Madou/Riad Nozha.
After waking up, you can explore Merzouga and see how the villagers irrigate their crops in the oasis.
Then we head to the village of Khamila, home of blacks who were brought to Morocco as slaves decades ago.
You will enjoy a performance of unique Gnawa music and have lunch in the village.
Return to your riad for a rest before heading on camel to the Sahara Desert where you will become more than just a tourist. You’ll spend the night in tents at our comfortable desert camp, equipped with toilets and showers. Dinner will be served under the stars.
In the morning, your camel guide will wake you up to enjoy the beauty of the sunrise over the dunes. This experience is considered one of the highlights of the trip.
After breakfast among the Erg Chebbi sand dunes, you will ride your camels back to the village of Merzouga.
Then we will head to the Dades Valley through the Todra Valley and the valleys, where we will stop to take pictures of the kasbahs built by Berber Jews during the 17th century.
You will have the opportunity to walk around the Todra Valley and take photos before heading to Dades Valley.
Overnight will be at Xaluca Dades Hotel.
After having breakfast in your riad, we will head to Marrakech via the Dades Valley, with its magnificent rock formations and ancient kasbahs, then head to the Valley of Roses, known for its Damascus roses, which are picked in April.
To continue our journey, we will head to the city of Ouarzazate, known as African Hollywood, where you can see the Kasbah of Taourirt and tour the movie studios.
You will be able to see Kasbah Taourirt and then check into your accommodation at Riad Dar Chamaa.
After breakfast at your riad, we’ll travel to Marrakech via the Ait ben Haddou Kasbah, the largest Kasbah in Morocco where movies such as The Gladiator, Game of Thrones, Lawrence of Arabia, and The Jewel of the Nile were filmed.
Then on to Marrakech through the Tichka Pass that is considered as one of the highest mountains in Morocco. We will arrive in Marrakech and overnight at Riad Princesse du Desert /Ksar Anika.
After breakfast, our local guide will take you through some of the historic sites in the Red City, including Bahia Palace, Saadian Tombs, Levna Mosque Square and Ben Youssef Medersa. When strolling through the markets, you will enjoy the sights, sounds and bright colors of the market. The city tour ends around 3pm.
Then proceed to the new part of Marrakech and the beautiful Majorelle Gardens created by Yves Saint Laurent, before returning to your accommodation.
After sunset, we suggest you walk to Jemaa El Fna, the main square of the old city that comes alive at night with snake charmers, storytellers, merchants and tourists enjoying the sights and sounds of Marrakech.
After breakfast at your riad, you will depart for Essaouira and Mogador, the windy city where surfers from all over the world come to enjoy their favorite sport.
Along the way, we’ll drive through the Land of Argan, the only place in the world where argan trees grow. You can visit one of the women’s cooperatives to learn how to make argan oil manually in the old-fashioned way.
When we arrive in Essaouira, you will have time to explore this blue and white city on the Atlantic Ocean, where many different cultures have lived side by side for centuries.
Enjoy lunch at one of the local restaurants before returning to your accommodation in Marrakech.
We will transfer you to Casablanca Airport where your 12-day itinerary from Tangier with Legendary Morocco Tours ends. You will return home with a heart full of happy memories.
