An Essaouira day trip from Marrakech involves driving approximately 2 hours and 40 minutes from Marrakech to this delightful old coastal city. There is plenty to see and do along the way. Only one person is required per tour and departures are guaranteed daily.
We’ll be picked up from your hotel or hostel in Marrakesh before 8.00am and we’ll make our way across the scenic R207 road to the coast. Along the way we will stop to see argan trees where young goats climb the low branches and feed. Sometimes there are up to 20 goats sitting in one tree. It is an amazing sight and very essential when it comes to having a photo opportunity.
Also along the way, we will stop at a women’s cooperative where argan oil is produced. The oil is extracted from the kernels of the tree and is a delicious accompaniment to a meal of Moroccan bread or simply drizzled on pita bread. The oil is also used as a beauty product to treat skin and hair.
Our Essaouira day trip from Marrakech arrives at the resort and coastal town where you will see the vast expanse of the North Atlantic Ocean. The vibrant Old City (Medina) is a World Heritage Site, and it doesn’t take much to find out why. Old brass cannons line the walls and ramparts to protect the waterfront from ancient invasions.
There are many modern cafes and restaurants in the coastal town and this modern culture meshes with the city’s history very well. You’ll feel like you’re drifting in a time machine as you move from a modern café to a Medina cricket ground just a few yards away.
A long concert is held on the seashore, where the sandy beach welcomes swimmers and those who want to relax under the sun on the golden sands of this charming city. To this end, you should bring a swimsuit, sunscreen, and towel with you while spending time at the beach.
Your return flight will depart to Marrakech arriving back in time at 6.00pm. Once again, you will be able to enjoy the ocean sunset as the sun begins to set in the late afternoon. Essaouira is a popular stopping point for most tourists visiting Morocco, and you’ll find out why when you embark on this wonderful day trip to the coast.
